on a personal note, i subscribe to #3. thank you Mr. Carlin.

Whatzits: tv
i've been getting calls all summer (even tho i'm supposedly on the do not call list) from an automated caller that says they want to speak with my about my account.
now, i understand that if it is a company that i have done business with before, or it's a political party, they can call. and i understand that not everyone follows the do not call list (not mandatory unfortunately).
these assholes fall into the 3rd category. at no time during the call, do they say WHO they are, or WHAT account they want to discuss with me, yet they seem to call me 3-4 times a week without fail. so when they called tonight, i actually answered the phone and pressed 1 to speak with a live person.
so, douchebag asshole gets on the line and starts rambling about something, so i stop him and ask why they keep calling me. he hits the rewind button and starts rambling so i try and ask what it is they do, are they a bank, or some sort of generic consolidator.
apparently 'generic' completely threw douchebag asshole for a loop and before i had a chance to ask them to remove me from their call list, he muttered something (i don't think he swore at me) and then promptly hung up on me.
i have no idea if they will call me again, but i think they will. in the meantime, i think i'll see if i can put together a quick fax server and plug it into my phone. maybe that way it will actually remove me if it thinks this isn't a phone, but a fax.
i wonder if someone has a telezapper i could borrow...

Whatzits: WTF?
well, it's some ungodly hour right now and i just got back from the office. we had some sort of network issue that i'm sure could raise some hell had it not been resolved. fortunately, it was and that is good.
the only reason i'm posting this is on my way home, i saw one of those trolley tour buses on the highway and it was having a party. for what looked like 6 people or so (one woman dancing, most likely sloshed). it looked like your typical dance club, only on wheels which i thought was pretty amusing for 150am. i don't think i've seen that before. i did see a converted school bus that was similar, but that was the first tolley tour bus dance club.
rather odd. anyways, i'm tired and hope to get some sleep before my boss wakes me up in the morning to find out what happened. i was leaving him VM and as i was wrapping it up, i accidently hung up, so i just left it at that. hopefully he'll check his email, but i doubt it. it could prove to be an entertaining call if he wakes me bright and early...

both shots taken yesterday.
the equivalent of toilet paper stuck on your shoe:
this isn't the greatest shot in the world, but after trying to get it in a moving car for 3 days, it's as good as i can get for the moment. is it just me, or does Fox25 anchor Mark Ockerbloom (left) look like a creepy pedofile? i certainly don't believe that he is, but the whole look in his eye (the "i'm a serious reporter" look?) combined with the darker shadowed coloring look doesn't help. plus whoever created the billboard shouldn't have chopped the tops of their heads off. a quick crop at the chest and slide them down would have saved them from having their heads cropped like a yummy soft-boiled egg.

i noticed the other day that mouth wash seems to be leading to this trend of "12 hour protection". the idea obviously is that you use it twice a day, you get 24 hour protection. not really, but that's what they want you to think.
the other night i gave it some realistic thought and came to the conclusion that it was a bogus (duh) claim. like most people, i brush my teeth twice a day. before i goto bed (~11pm) and again when i get up in the morning. somewhere between 6-8am typically.
so if i use my mouthwash at 11pm, i'm covered until 11am (according to the claims). and if i use it again in the morning (say 7am to split the difference), then i'm covered until 7pm. but if i don't brush my teeth immediately after dinner, but wait until i'm getting ready for bed (~11pm), then there is a 4 hour window where according to the 12 hour claim, i'm not protected.
not an overly profound observation, but i was amused.

Whatzits: random
there isn't much on tv these days, at least not on sunday nights so i've been lazy and not changed the channel from fox (where i had been watching football) and they have this game show called Hole In The Wall.
it is awful.
and i'm trying to figure out how to make a 'glory hole in the wall' joke, but can't. where's lil' jimmy norton when i need him?

Whatzits: abomination, tv
at 3am this morning, i was rudely woken up by a loud beep, similar to a pager that hasn't been looked at type beep. it's loud, obnoxious and won't shut up until you look at it. i didn't think too much of it and started to fall back asleep semi-wondering what was it as it pulled me from a dead sleep.
but just as i was slipping back into that wonderful dark embrace of sleep, BEEP BEEP.
at which point any hope of falling asleep flew right out my open window. i knew it was not a pager i had (not on call until tomorrow), and i knew it wasn't my cellphone, because it isn't anywhere near as obnoxious about missed calls (my KRZR did beep like that, but it's off). it couldn't be a laptop as that was powered off, and the beep was the wrong pitch. the only thing i could think of was maybe the smoke detector in the hallway was the culprit. in my last apartment, i had the battery die on the smoke detector before and it's a similar beep, so i grabbed a flashlight (which i didn't really need) and wandered into the living room. i opened my front door and waited on the couch for it to beep again. after ten minutes of looking back and forth between the smoke detector and the clock on my cable box, i figured it wasn't the culprit.
i did notice one odd thing tho - stinky (neighbor) who ALWAYS has her tv on when at home (day and night), usually at obnoxious volume levels, actually had the volume down on her tv. i could see a slight glow around the door so i saw that it was on, but i thought it was odd that she didn't have the volume up. after a few minutes, i heard the channel change and was pleased that the volume was actually at a reasonable level until it went to commercial where it was then back to the usual obnoxious levels. a few seconds later, the volume dropped so i was left wondering if she falls asleep on the remote and her rolling about then pushes the buttons until she wakes up. there is this morbid curiosity, but at the same time, it's an unpleasant thought to observe her in her natural environment. it's bad enuff that i'll come home and be assaulted with a new smell.
afterwards, crawled back into bed, twittered and then attempted to fall asleep. after a few minutes, i closed my window and turned the fan on my A/C to create some white noise, but that didn't help much so it was probably close to 4am when i finally fell back asleep. so when my alarm went off at 602am, i managed to sleep thru it until just after 7am, which is something i would prefer not to do.
fortunately, there was no traffic on the road so even leaving a little before 8am, i was at work in plenty of time.
so for the 4th night in a row, i've had a crappy nights sleep and i'm getting starting to get cranky.

Whatzits: Led Zeppelin, picture
i stopped by a verizon in-store kiosk on the way home today and asked carmine about a promo that verizon was running for people who bought the LG Dare. buy the phone, get a free (as in beer) 8gb microSD card for your phone. i wasn't aware of it until i signed up for my employee discount (22% off my bill! AND it applies to anything i buy for my phone too!). i shot our sales rep an email but in no real surprise, he never replied.
so, i talked to carmine and he knew exactly what i was talking about. he looked a few things up but wasn't sure when the promotion started. and he wasn't sure if it was something that would have to be mailed to me or he could give to me. so i patiently waited while he looked things up, talked with a co-worker who wasn't sure, and then he emailed someone who would know. but they were on vacation until the 25th. so he mailed the person covering, and i continued to wait. i was able to find info about the promo, but nothing with a date, so after he assisted 2 other customers, he made an executive decsion - he gave me an 8gb card.
WOO!
so, i now have an 8gb card to put into my phone and i can replace the 2gb i'm currently using that belongs to my mp3 player. so the day ended on a pretty good note after starting out in a pretty rough fashion. i'm still tired as hell, but pleased how the day ended.
thank you carmine of the verizon in-store kiosk :-)
