clipped by the bullet

work is stressful. not because of what i'm doing, but because of fiscally uncertain times. and it doesn't help that the federal government is a bunch of fucking idiots who have no concept of what quality healthcare agencies need to stay afloat.

today was apparently a bloodbath. i suppose i'm happy to not have been there, but when you get an email in the morning from your boss saying 'call me at 3pm', it makes for a stressful day. you might think that after 7 1/2 years at a job, the idea of being the low man on the totem pole might have been retired, but not so. i'm no longer the lowest man on the totem pole, but as a result of my lack of status, i've had my hours reduced 20%. so starting in january, i work 4 days a week, not 5. under normal circumstances, i think i would have been bothered, but the point i'm at in my life right now, my first thought when i was told the news (over the phone, as i'm only working 3 days a week currently) was 'cool!' followed quickly by 'i have a job'.

rolling back a month, my son was born, and i'm currently taking monday & tuesday off for FMLA, so until March, i'm only working 3 days a week. but the reality is i already know that i'm going to miss having these days with him. well, now i get to have an extra day, so it's not the end of the world. in fact, it's almost a blessing. i'll be able to see him grow up that much more. 40+ days where i get to see him grow, rather than think about what i'm missing at work. yes, it sucks that i'm being paid less (20%), but i think it's worth it. i was fortunate. other people at work (some i think deserved it, others not) weren't so lucky.

Alrighty then

I had one of those moments of 'well now, that's odd' yesterday on the drive home. It is getting close to the time when I need an oil change, and I started thinking about how long I have had my car. As of April 9th, I will be celebrating my 3rd anniversary, and nearly 51000 miles later I am still pleased with it.

It's just the 51k thing that surprised me. But running the numbers, it does add up. I average between 300-315 miles per tank (15.3 gallon), with an average fill up between 10.5-12 gallons.

So, 156 weeks x 300 miles = 46800 miles.

I didn't think I would quite be at that high a number yet, but I am. Guess it really does add up when you aren't thinking about it.

And I guess it is time for another oil change soon.

Fun

Finally some warm weather and finally the snow is melting. The bad news is a pair of chickadees thought the siding above a window was fun to play with.

Fortunately they seemed to scare off easily but the damage was done.  Trip to the hardware store to get get wood filler and hope like hell the rain would hold off. And luck was with me today, so that was nice.

Otherwise a busy weekend. Changes for me coming this week. Woo.

And with that click, time for bed.
