the other day, i actually set foot in a bookstore for the first time in a little while. bookstores and i have a long history. i go in, i look around, i find a book. and another book. and another book. i've been better lately, but my will was tested the other day. fortunately, M was with me, so i'll call it a half-test. it's a lot harder when i'm on my own. but in typical fashion, i zone into the SciFi section and right there in plain view is The Road To Dune. i took a little time to look thru it, and i'm certainly interested in obtaining it, but i've got plenty of books to read for the moment.

but it's an interesting flip thru. i was interested in seeing the original end to Dune Messiah. i'm glad it was cut. at the end of the book (as published), Paul walks off into the desert to die. the original chapter as it ends, actually has Paul finding some fremen and rather than being completely blind (which sets in completely with the birth of his children), he can still 'see'. kinda spoils things and contradicts earlier events. but i imagine, Paul's total blindness was written after the chapter was discarded. i always liked the image of Paul walking off into the desert to die, so i'm glad that's how it ends. it's very fitting. it's very...fremen.
