today's amusement (for me)

i've spent the last 2 days working with AM on installing our new fancy GFI Faxmaker which has all kinds of promise right now. it's pretty nifty, and when AM left this afternoon, i feel as tho i have a pretty good handle on the basics, and i understand what needs to be done when and how. so after exchanging good byes, AM left and i looked at our visitor log to see if he had signed in (as visitors are sposed to do). i saw that he had so i signed him out and the following exchange occured:

the players: LM - our receptionist, LC - not sure what she does, but it appears to be important, Molius - yours truly

LM: you didn't have to do that (sign AM out of visitor log).

Molius: that's ok, i figued i should anyways

LM: you like to do little things to annoy me.

Molius: (as i am walking away) yes i do.

LC: Molius is the man

LM: yes he is.

i couldn't help but laugh.

so today, which has been a long day (i'm still at work currently, finishing something up before i head home), has actually been a good day. productive, instructional with bits of humor thrown in for good measure.

interesting

i saw something similar to this a few months ago, but it was pulled from the shelves (i believe it was Wolfgang Puck branded) for being too hot or something like that, but when i saw it in the supermarket saturday, i figured what the hell. i figured for $2.50, i'd give it a try, justifying it by saying it was the same as a dunkin'. M corrected me by reminding me that dunkin' costs less.

so i tried it sunday morning.

meh.

i wasn't expecting much to begin with, it was more the novelty of the self-heating that was interesting to me, but after waiting for the alotted 5-8 minutes, i was presented with a 138 degree cup of coffee. i poured it into a mug (against the directions on the label) and tried it. 138 degrees isn't much when you think about it, so i found it to be rather disapointing from a heating perspective. (by contrast, the dunkin' i got when i picked up the paper was 158 degrees)

it also looked like a darker brown than i was expecting (i was thinking color would be similar to the starbucks fraps). was a creamy consitancy, and the hazelnut flavor (artificial flavoring) was strong.

i prolly should have nuked it for 30 seconds to bring it up to a better temp, but only in my mug. they clearly state not to put the thing into a microwave (it's that metal/microwave thing).

overall coffee flavor was a little weak with the hazelnut overshadowing it. definitely something i'll pass on in the future. i'll stick to my dunkin'.

Local markets pull Peter Pan peanut butter

Stop & Shop and Shaw's, two of New England's largest grocery chains, said today that they responded to reports of a salmonella outbreak by ordering their stores to pull all Peter Pan peanut butter off their shelves.

ConAgra Foods Inc. of Nebraska touched off national concern when it disclosed that certain jars of its Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter had been linked to an outbreak of salmonella that has sickened people in 39 states, the Associated Press reported.

ConAgra indicated that the outbreak was tied to jars whose lids bear a product code beginning with 2111, the AP reported.

Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. said that to its knowledge, no tainted peanut butter had been found in its stores, but as a precaution, company officials today ordered all Peter Pan peanut butter to be removed from store shelves, company spokesman Robert Keane said.

The chain has also programmed its cash registers to issue an alert in the event that a Peter Pan peanut butter jar had somehow eluded the recall and a customer showed up with it at a checkout line, Keane said; if such a jar were to be swiped over the scanner, the store employee at the cash register would be alerted that the product was not for sale.

Stop & Shop does not carry Great Value, another peanut butter brand linked to the salmonella outbreak, Keane said.

Based in Quincy, Stop & Shop operates 385 supermarkets in the Northeast, including about 120 in Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, Shaw's Supermarkets Inc., a New England chain based in West Bridgewater, said its 210 stores were instructed to immediately remove all Peter Pan peanut butter from store shelves, spokeswoman Judy Chong said.

Any customer who has recently purchased Peter Pan butter at a Shaw's can return it for a full refund or exchange it for a comparable product, Chong said.

25 SIGNS YOU HAVE GROWN UP

  1. Your houseplants are alive, and you can't smoke any of them.
  2. Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.
  3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge.
  4. 6:00 AM is when you get up, not when you go to bed.
  5. You hear your favorite song in an elevator.
  6. You watch the Weather Channel.
  7. Your friends marry and divorce instead of "hook up" and "break up."
  8. You go from 130 days of vacation time to 14.
  9. Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as "dressed up."
  10. You're the one calling the police because those %&@# kids next door won't turn down the stereo.
  11. Older relatives feel comfortable telling sex jokes around you.
  12. You don't know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.
  13. Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up.
  14. You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonald's leftovers.
  15. Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.
  16. You take naps.
  17. Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of one.
  18. Eating a basket of chicken wings at 3 AM would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach.
  19. You go to the drug store for ibuprofen and antacid, not condoms and pregnancy tests.
  20. A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer "pretty good sh*t."
  21. You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.
  22. "I just can't drink the way I used to" replaces "I'm never going to drink that much again."
  23. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.
  24. You drink at home to save money before going to a bar.
  25. When you find out someone you know is pregnant you congratulate them instead of asking "Oh shit, what the hell happened?"

    Bonus:
  26. You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that doesn't apply to you and can't find one to save your sorry old ass.

the things you find sometimes...

a while back (tuesday, december 5th) i posted an entry where i explained how i came to love certain bands, and how it is usually a song that clubs me over the head.

one of the bands i mentioned was Curve, and how Coast Is Clear was that club. i didn't go into it other than to say Toni's voice. anyways, the combo of her voice and Dean's bass line, is what clubbed me over the head. i'm not sure what else to say about it, but i can now tell you when i first heard the song.

it looks as though altmusictv has a lovely archive of MTV's 120 Minutes playlists. and with some quick digging, i struck GOLD!

HUZZAH!

i remember watching that episode. how's about that!

nevermind that it's a goldmine for playlists. older shows (back when i was watching) tend to be a little spotty, but it's fun to see when i watched them because i'll recognize a few videos, interview segments, etc. a nice trip down memory lane, back when i'd stay up to 2am to see what was genuinely interesting.

oh grow a set

sorry JJ and eva, but i have to say this.

the news just showed Peyton during an interview asking Colts fans not to sell their tickets to Patriots fans. (keep the dome blue)

my response is this:

OH GROW UP!

you are a professional quarterback, and one of the best playing right now (this is coming from a Patriots fan too). so yes, there will be a lot of pressure, but focus on the game. do you really believe that Colts fans are really that fair weather? i don't. and do you really think that a die-hard Colts fan is going to sell their first opportunity to see an AFC Championship game at HOME? that to me says that Peyton doesn't have faith in his fans, or worse, himself.

i expect the game to be a good game, and both teams are giving their all, and the best team will win. and i would not be suprised if it didn't come down to a field goal during the last seconds. so Peyton, don't forget that the Pats colors are Blue and Silver, so there will be some more blue in the stands regardless. and it's going to be LOUD so hush.

focus on the game and how you are going to beat our defense. i'm sure that's the same thing that Tom is focusing on.

i have lost a little of my resepect for your Peyton. you're still a good quarterback, but...
