arg
today's commute into work can be wonderfully summarized by the following quote from Spaceballs:
Dark Helmet: how many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?
(many) Spaceballs: YO!
Dark Helmet: I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes!

well, i can go home
it looks as tho the exchange server is going to be happy for the moment. fortunately, it finished doing it's thing after 4pm, so most of the agency has left, so it will have a little time to recover before it gets a beating from the (L)user community.
woo.

fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck
i want to say that i posted something about our exchange server a little while ago about how it was running out of space (i think i've mentioned it a few times way back when) but the latest nail in the coffin was it happened again this afternoon.
only this time rather than moving the public data store to a separate drive, i'm moving the whole fucking private store to that drive, and when that finishes (it's been moving for the last 60+ minutes) i'll move the public store back to where it was originally.
priv goes to the f: drive
pub goes to the d: drive
f: drive has ~17gb available
d: drive has ~15.9gb available.
and the most frustrating part about all of this is that exchange 5.5 has a private store maximum size of 16gb.
so i'm hoping that in the short term, the new (to the priv) additional room will give it a chance to a) reach that 16gb max and then b) (my biggest hope) will force exchange to do it's little purgey routine that will clean things up and prevent me from having to drag my ass into work tomorrow night and for me to tape Lost because i'll be freezing my ass off in a chilly server room.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST...i damn near shit my pants. i just checked up on how the move was, and sticking my head into the server room i saw and error on the server. fortunately, it's the error we always seem to get when the services start yet doesn't seem to affect anything negatively thus far, so i could handle that. i'm in the process of moving the public store back to d: now, which should take less time (like a fraction of the time) so things should be back up and running (i hope) in the next 30 mins.
because if it ain't, i won't be able to leave here in 31 minutes according to my clock.
here's hoping that all goes well...

huh...
i hadn't realized just how long it's been since i've actually blogged.
long story short - i'm still alive.
saw kong this afternoon with M. i liked it, altho there were certainly moments where i was thinking to myself "you stupid woman". liked kong, thought the movie was well done, altho the first hour tends to drag a bit, and i think you could have accomplished that hour in 1/2 the time easy if you skip over thing. montage some of the scenes, but compress it. i've decided that i certainly do not have gamer's ass (tm). my ass hurt afterwards from sitting for so long.
work has been busy of late, and we've finished our 10 advertised sessions of installing drug books on clinician's laptops. we now have the discression to do it when we want to. guessing that we did less than a 1/3 of the laptops in both offices. it's a mandatory thing for them, so you would have figured they might take a little more interest. nah.
so fuck 'em. we gave them ample opportunities to do it. and i wasn't mean about doing it for a few that stopped by after our scheduled sessions. usually i'm a lot more pissy about stuff like that, but even I was nice.
at least the weather the last few days has been above average. rather than bitter cold, we've had some nice 50's (altho today was rainy) but tomorrow is sposed to be a bitch of a day - bitter cold, wind, snow/sleet/freezing rain. blech.
we'll see how the pat/broncos game ends. just had a bit of crappy luck, but i certainly don't believe that the pats are out of it - there's still a full 15 mins to go.
go pats!

5 years ago today
5 years ago today (this afternoon technically, ~330pm, and a Wednesday too) i purchased my current mode of transportation, my 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. technically, i started paying loans on it, so i suppose when i paid it off in November, that was when i techncially bought it.
in any event, at 34,898 miles, i drove off the lot over at 128 Ford with it as 'my' car. 5 years later and at just over 104,000 miles, it's held up pretty well. i'm still frustrated over the circumstances under which i had to buy it (my jeep was stolen out of the parking lot at work and totaled just north of where i live now, in a shithole of a town i have a very strong dislike for). i had been planning on buying a new car in the summertime, but this forced my hand and i've been pretty pissed about that ever since. i certainly don't fault my car, but there is that constant reminder of the shit i went thru to get it.
a random happy factoid about the car, the first CD i ever listened to in it (actually started listening to while test driving, prolly heard 2-3 times during the process) was Tool's Aenima
so, happy buy-day car.

hmmm...
that's weird. got a comment from jennkitty indicating that the links to the boots didn't work. i'm not sure why that is, but she correctly identified which boots i liked and which i ended up with -
the ones i liked are the Diamond Peak, but those were the ones that dug into my toes, so i ended up with the Bonanza Peak. the color of choice was the darker brown.
so let's see if just putting the links here will work:
Bonanza Peak (the winners)
Diamond Peak (the non-winners)
thank you jennkitty.

nearly forgot
i nearly forgot, after having ongoing issues with my phone (which i've had for a year and a half), i finally decided that it was time to look into getting a new one. the problem is that i like verizon wireless, i've found them to have the best overall service and coverage. unfortunately, they are really fucking conservative with their phone selection, which really limits some of the options. so i've opted for the LG VX6100. my first camera phone, but i've only used it to play and it's more of a tool than a camera. i've found i can take pictures of something in a store as a reminder (like which boots i liked, so i'd know what to look for). i have no intention of mailing the pictures to myself (or anyone else) as i don't feel like paying for that option. i'm pleased with the ability to actually type an email or take a picture and crop it before sending which phones don't really have. we'll see how i like it in the next few days. being on vaca has meant i don't use the phone too much, but once i'm back at work, i'll use it more.
the nice thing however is that the battery that this phone uses is identical to the battery in my previous phone, so i have a spare battery and charger now :) the only thing i don't like right now is the holster is rather stiff. so it takes some effort to pry it out, where past phones i've had with holsters, they've just clicked in and out w/minimal effort and i've never had problems with them dropping or popping out. i'll have to see if i can get a 3rd party one that isn't so stiff.

misc stuff
last night i saw a commercial for urine gone and remembered that TK had gotten some for his cats. i wonder if it actaully works, and i seem to recall something about not getting the scientific blacklight that went with it. i wonder if that arrived...
right now history channel has a show on Harry Houdini (which is interesting on its own), but i couldn't help but chuckle at how Teller (of Penn & Teller) is filmed during his interview bits - completely in shadow. it's certainly him as i've seen him actually speak (i have a picture of him holding a little eeyore when i was in atlanta in 2000), but this keeps the illusion of no one ever sees Teller speak. very clever.
tomorrow is going to suck purty hard. the biggest reason is i have to go back to work. i've enjoyed having time off, even tho there were a few times where the pressures of work overflowed into my vacation. fortunately, it's been quiet the last few days, so i've actually felt like i have had a bit of a vacation. i really do need to better plan my vacations, at least this year i know there are a few things that i need to take time off for. now i just need to know when that is.
so on my last day of freedom, i was able to get my final xmas present. i've been searching for a new pair of hiking boots for a little while now, and this year M gave me a card that was good for one pair of boots, so after searching around and a couple of misses, i finally found a pair that i liked. i liked these too and for a little while, they were the front runners, but when i tried on a pair that were a 1/2 size too big, i didn't like how they flexed at my toes (dug into them) which knocked them down a bit, so when i found the ones i chose in the right size, i was very pleased. it was a last look at a kohls that i hadn't been too that actually had them. (and in the same plaza was a TJMaxx that had a jacket that M was able to pick up.)
so all in all, it was a pretty good day. good run at the gym, so that was a nice start to the day. hopefully i'll be able to get back on wednesday, but that's more dependent on the weather (which is sposed to be really shitty tomorrow) and whether i get screwed into going to SW for this fucking drug book thing we have to put on laptops. that would suck as we have 2 scheduled blocks of time (7am-9am and 1pm-3pm) and it's for both offices and apparently there are a ton of people signed up for wed morning in SW. i'll find out tomorrow, but i'm certainly hoping that i don't have to go. i can deal with getting to my office early, but going to SW bright and early is a real pain in the ass.
well, i just remembered i wanted to hit the atm so that i'd actually have money for the week, so i'll do that now. i expect traffic to be a nightmare tomorrow, plus i'll prolly forget so i'll do it now while i'm thinking about it. drive up atms are nice that way...
