it's hard not to be depressed these days...

i'm not clinically depressed, nor am i going to do anything foolish, for the few of you out there who care about me, no worries. (or should you?)

actually, now that i give it a moments more thought, i guess i'm more frustrated than depressed, so you have even less reason to worry. i think the biggest frustration with my white piece of shit stems from the fact that now that i truly own it (title, rusting bolt and fucked up 4x4 control motor), it is harder to accept that i am the one wholly responsible for the repairs of it. but then, there was only 2 things that i had to get fixed prior to paying it off, and both of those were a year (at least) apart. (lower balljoints on the frust suspension, dead relay for the a/c, that $7 bit that cost me $116 to get fixed).

and here i am, dealing with 2 major repairs in less than a month. i suppose i could have dealt with the 4x4 control motor last month, but it was $420 that i could save and use towards the trip next month (which we are going on, tix purchased). the way this thing was explained to me was that it is the motor that puts my car in/out of 4wd. most of the time it runs 2wd, but then will send power up front when needed. or i can turn it on to fulltime 4wd in both high & low gearing. 98% of the time, i leave it in auto and if it goes into 4wd, i never notice. the only times that i do run it in fulltime 4wd is in really shitty weather conditions (mostly snow, occasionally heavy rains and i have to drive thru puddles). fortunately, most of the time it isn't an issue. but for some reason, it died, presumably from normal wear and tear/age. i guess it works a lot harder than i thought.

in any event, i've pretty much sworn off buying a ford in the future, and M has this idea of smacking me if i consider it for more than a moment, but i can't say that i've been overly excited over my white piece of shit. i've never made any bones that there was a part of me that didn't like it (rush decision, circumstances), but it does what i need it to do utlimately which is simply to get from point A to point B. (home/work, work/supermarket/home, etc) but unlike the jeep, this white piece of shit doesn't have a personality. i miss it, even tho the a/c was shot, it was still a fun car to drive and i enjoyed driving it. except when i had to get the slave cylinder in the transmission fixed ($35 part, $400 labor). then it sucked, but that was only twice, and the first time it wasn't the owner, so dad paid for it.

but now i'm dealing with the disturbing reality of car ownership. or is it ownershit? sure i've done repairs, but this is brutal, esp as what i'm paying/paid for the repairs is more than the fucking excise tax valuation on my car. (fucking excise tax)

oh well. not a whole lot i can do about it other than look into what would be a better car to replace this with.

i will say that the 2006 white piece of shit i'm driving as a loaner is nicer than the freestyle i was driving, but there are still things i don't like about it. the seats are firmer, the handles to pull the door closed are in an awkward spot, the door handle is a little odd, i miss the side step up thing (mom likes mine, makes it a lot easier to get in and out of my car for her). don't like the 3rd row seats. hate the gas mileage (makes my look good). i'm not sure about having the brake cables semi-exposed on the frame is a good idea. the steering wheel feels a little smaller in diameter, don't like the location of the turn signal. don't like the shape of the gear shift, but i do like the location of it (between the seats and not on the steering column). don't like the location of the overdrive on/off button.

i do find the ride a little smoother than mine, but with independent suspension, i would hope so. i like how when i turn it off, the radio stays on until i open the door (allowing for those NPR driveway moments to continue). i like that the power steering is a little stronger than mine. i like that ford has figured out how to keep the turn radius reasonably tight. i do miss my sunroof. and having a clicker to lock/unlock the car. having to put a key in the door lock is an odd feeling. not used to that anymore.

this sucks

well, i don't have my car. in fact, as it's lunchtime as i type this and i know that pizza was ordered, they have 3 hours to tear my car apart and then reassemble it.

ain't gonna happen. the only good news is they gave me a car, a 2006 white piece of shit, so i have the feeling that i get to keep it until they actually fix my car on monday. i have the feeling that whoever moved it put a note on the work order indicating that it was going to take more time than they wanted to put out today as they hadn't even looked at it by the time i got there. i called around 1030 (last time i knew by 10) to see if there was any news and there wasn't at that point, so i walked down there knowing that if they were going to give me a car from enterprise (i have issues with them - they think i owe them money for some reason, working on getting that resolved) it would have to happen before noon when they closed.

but i got a dealer white piece of shit, so for the moment i can transport myself around.

yay.

stoopit white piece of shit.

mother fucker...

I

FUCKING

HATE

MY

FUCKING

WHITE

PIECE

OF

FUCKING

SHIT

i'm getting ready to leave work, put my car in gear, back out of my parking space and go to turn and something doesn't feel right. i pull off to the side and take a look to see if i have a flat tire or something.

nope.

i turn the steering wheel and i feel the wheels strain. i get out to see if something is visually broken, nope. i do a few slow circles and i can feel something binding. i put it in park and there is a very audible *thunk*.

so i figure out if i don't turn the wheels too far, i can drive in a straight line and wide curves w/o a problem (i hope). it feels like it does when i try and try in 4wd and go around a sharp corner, and if felt like i was in 4wd, but i have no way of turning it off. unfortunately, i know that i need to have the 4x4 control motor replaced ($420 for parts/labor) so i'm not worried that there's more wrong with it.

i drive over to the dealer and when i get there, the wheels continue to feel all fucked up, and if i try to do a sharp turn, it feels like it's binding even more. i talk to reggie, but he isn't able to help much. i call M, swearing a blue streak about this mess and decide that it's not safe so i head back and ask reggie if i can leave it.

the service department is open at 7am, but reggie informs me that i had better get there early if i want them to look at it, otherwise monday morning. fortunately, i can leave it so i limp it into the service dept, take stuff out (laptop, pull car key off of house keyring, etc) and it's now sitting there.

fortunatley, they were able to give me a ride home so here i am sitting with the fan blowing on me. it's fucking hot outside. but i managed a trip to the local wine shop to aquire some fermented fizzy juice.

so here i'm sitting w/o a fucking car.

AGAIN.

fucking white piece of fucking shit.

that was stupid

i thought the whole concept behind USB is that when you plugged a device in, Windows would recognize it, ask for a driver if needed and then it would be all happy.

well, apparently there is a bit of a loophole as i just discovered. some time ago, i bought an iRiver IFP-795 (512mb) for going to the gym. this morning, i am going to be good and actually GO to the gym, something i have been fairly lax about the last month or so.

so i grab my trusty little OGG player (because i prefer OGG to MP3, which this little device supports) and plug it into my laptop. only, i didn't use the USB port on the side, but the one in the back. XP in its infinite stupidity decided that this was a new device.

excuse me?

i've been using this for quite some time, however, i do seem to recall that i only ever used the side USB port, so while waiting for the iRiver support page to load, i swap ports. turns out that's all i needed to do, but it was mildly irritating to find that a device my laptop (and Windows) are more than happy to support, wouldn't.

i don't get it, esp as i've plugged in many devices into either port and never had a problem, including mice, my Rio Karma (FLAC support!), USB hubs, and even a USB xmas tree and i've NEVER had problems. this is the first time i've seen this so i'm finding it rather odd...

time to mix up some gatorade and get going...

    unfuckingbelievable...

    fuck you cisco!

i've been "asked" to help install a vpn client on the CIO's Treo 700w, so i was given a link to anthaVPN. i managed to dload it only to discover that there is no way to dload it on the Treo itself, so i gave it back with instructions for him to dload it and use ActiveSync (which took him a multitude of attempts before succeeding) to get it installed on his Treo. he handed it back to me and i started following the instructions from anthaVPN only to have it not work as expected. i sent them an email and afterwards, wondered if cisco (fuck you!) had a native client we could use instead. (we use it on our VPN)

well, i start to navigate thru the maze that is cisco's (fuck you!) site only to discover that a) they don't have a client and b) to verify this i have to register for their site. ok, that's fine so i go thru the process and after a while (last night) i get the 'click here to confirm your registration' email. i complete my registration and in sets my frustration.

    1. they decide i'm a guess, so i'm not worthy of getting even the most basic (in my mind) info
    2. i have to continually log in, and each time, the log in doesn't take me to the page i'm wanting to goto, but some idiot page that say i'm logged in. if i press back and try again, it tells me i have to log in again. i find the page again, and i have to log in again.
    3. i tried this using both firefox and IE, and both browsers exhibit the SAME BEHAVIOR.
    4. i used to think that cisco (FUCK YOU!) was a good company, but if this is the business model they are using, this fucking sucks.
    5. i never had a problem accessing basic things like the ability to dload the latest vpn client until now.

so needless to say, i'm pissed at them right now, and i'm hoping that DH has some sort of information i can use to up my 'dog poo on the cisco (FUCK YOU!) shoe' status to something more functional. but at the very least, as our company is a CUSTOMER USING THEIR PRODUCTS IN ALL OF OUR OFFICES, you'd think we'd be treated with a little more respect.

so i end this with my homage to cisco (FUCK YOU!)

    i don't get it

i thought that i, like everyone else in this world (at least those who live under the umbrella of human rights), had the right to be bored.

i also thought i had the right to be restless.

and finally, i thought i had the right to become frustrated.

    i guess not.

now that is genuinely frustrating. so if you are going to get mad at me because i am frustrated, please let me know.
