stoopit drive
i got a call from PA a little after 4pm and she let me listen to this annoying beeping coming from one of the servers up here. so i told her i'd be up. i'm wondering if i should adjust my hours because the 10-12 minutes earlier onto 93N really made a difference.
anyways, after some quick checking, i discovered that one of the drives in the RAID array decided it didn't like to work anymore. fortunately, rebuilding it has fixed the drive, but rebuilding a 73gb drive took a little more than 2 hours. it's finished now, but i figure as i'm the only person here in the office (oooo...spooky. not really.) i figured i would do some updates and then head home.
and because of this, i didn't get the chance to finish configuring that stupid thinkpad. i was going to have it done before i left but with the drive thing (which i didn't know at the time, just knew it was the server), i felt that was a priority, and i'll get it finished once i get in.

that sucks
the bmw in the picture belongs to my former office-mate. yesterday during lunchtime, some assclowns (at least 4) were in a stolen jeep cherokee (why does that sound familiar?) and managed to slam into LJ's car and the CRV that was parked next to her (visible in on the right by the lamp post in the wider shot). the CRV had its spare tire rammed into the rear gate, and the mazda next to LJ's was pinned in place by the right rear wheel. there was a honda parked in front of the bmw that had to move before anyone else could move. cops were called but didn't arrive quickly (~30mins) and that was after a 2nd call saying that they thought they found the jeep. (all 4 doors were open, engine still running - cops confirmed it was stolen, no arrests were made as of yesterday dinnertime)
and our douchebag temp (now EX-temp) receptionist was asked by security to send the plate info around, but didn't, so LJ didn't find out about the accident until nearly 4pm (saving grace - she didn't walk out to that mess at the end of the day). i went out and took some pictures in case her insurance people wanted them (not really).

Killing Joke - Invocation
Hearts of darkness and hate
O evil, oblivion your fate
O betrayers i come a war without end
My enemy's enemy is my friend
Mankind becomes the whore
Temples are empty - no law
False religions shall rise
Flags of scarlet shall fly
O destroyer of worlds!
Babylon

fuck microsoft
fucking microsoft
i'm trying (TRYING) to use their support database to look up a SPECIFIC error. i have all of the details, and in their advanced search option, i plug the information and hit search.
then it gives me NOTHING.
i google with the same information, and i pull up all kinds of information, but it doesn't pertain to server 2003 (all WinXP related). so i figured that microsoft would be able to help.
what the fuck was i thinking?
now i'm pissed and no closer to figuring out what caused our PRIMARY SQL server to take a shit this morning than i was when it was actually TAKING the shit.
and they expect people to pay for their support?
i wonder if i could install Ubuntu on my work laptop and have everything i need to administer my network....i know it installs, but the ability to RDP and VPN are critical for me.
fucking microsoft.

what a pain
and today started out with so much promise. tonight was the monthly maintenance night, so i started my day doing a few things that i wanted to get done.
- listened to OnA
- read a good chunk of V for Vendetta
- got an oil change and replaced my serpentine belt
- saw cloverfield
- read more of V for Vendetta
so by the time i headed into work, i was feeling pretty good about the day.
once in, things went along as expected until i went to patch one of our Win2000 servers. it pretty much shit the bed. and the ONLY saving grace was this happened at the start of the evening, rather than, like, now.
so, the entire evening was spent dealing with this single server (a rather important production server) while i tried to get the other servers patched. i managed to get most of them done. a few updates i wanted to do i couldn't because i ran out of time, so they'll wait until next months update.
so now it's time for bed. i'm tired and somewhat frustrated, but at least i'm not as frustrated as i could (or in the past would) be so i should be able to get some sleep.
